REVIEW | Gandhi (1982) was directed by RICHARD ATNBOROUGH. The cast starred BEN KINGSLEY as Mahatma Gandhi, CANDICE BERGEN as Margaret Bourke-White the International Photographer, MARTIN SHEEN as Vince Walker a Fictional Journalist, EDWARD FOX as Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer, TREVOR HOWARD as Justice Stonehouse Broomfield the judge in Gandhi’s Trial, JOHN MILLS as the Viceroy Lord Chelmsford, and other cast members. This movie was so outstanding it won eight Academy Wards, including Best Picture, and BEN KINGSLEY got the Best Actor award. This powerful and moving epic spans decades, from South Africa to India. It portrayed the life of Mahatma Gandhi brilliantly about how he led a nonviolent movement to liberate his nation from British rule. This movie was an amazing success and grossed $127.8 million on a $22 million budget. Some key points to remember about this remarkable movie are as follows:

  1. Gandhi (1982) begins in South Africa in the early 20th Century, where Gandhi (BEN KINGSLEY) faced racial segregation and discrimination.
  2. Gandhi (1982) meticulously portrays Gandhi’s struggle against injustice and his unwavering commitment to nonviolent resistance.
  3. Gandhi (1982) captures the cultural nuances beautifully woven into the narrative, such as how people interacted with Gandhi, his marriage, the Indian tradition, and personal intimacy.
  4. Gandhi (1982) rivals great classics like Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago.
  5. BEN KINGSLEY captures the spirit of Gandhi’s quiet strength, observant demeanor, soft-spoken delivery, and moral force behind his words.

Conclusion:

Gandhi (1982) is not just a historical record of a living document to remind us of the enduring power of human resilience and moral courage. If you haven’t seen this Masterpiece, find it because it is a highly recommended treasure. I gladly gave it an easy 5 Stars.
