REVIEW | 9 to 5 (1980) is a delightful American comedy film written and directed by COLIN HIGGINS. The main cast starred LILLY TOMLIN as Violet Newstead, the efficient office manager. JANE FONDA as Judy Bernly, a newcomer navigating her first job after a divorce. DOLLY PARTON in her debut role as Dora Lee Rhodes, the boss’s secretary. DABNEY COLEMAN as the villainous boss, Franklin Hart Jr. Other notable cast members include REN WOODS as Barbara, NORMA DONALDSON as Betty, RAY VITTE as Eddie, EARL BOEN as Perkins, PETER HOBBS as the Doctor, STERLING HAYDEN as Tinsworthy, and ELIZABETH WILSON as Roz.

Office Politics

The story revolves around three female office workers. Judy Bernly (played by JANE FONDA), Violet Newstead (played by LILLY TOMLIN), and Dore Lee Rhodes (played by DOLLY PARTON). The office villain is Franklin Hart Jr (portrayed by DABNEY COLEMAN), a self-righteous boss with an insatiable lust for Dora Lee Rhodes. Despite her refusal to entertain his advances, everyone in the office believes she is having an affair with the boss, leading to strained relationships.

Kidnap the Boss

The plot thickens when these three office workers take matters into their own hands. They seek retribution and make demands to change their situation. Their bizarre plan involves kidnap ping their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical boss, Franklin Hart Jr (DABNEY COLEMAN). The result of having their boss Franklin Hart Jr (DABNEY COLEMAN) swinging from the ceiling, attached by wire to a garage-door opener—a fitting consequence for his behavior! 🤣 But wait—isn’t kidnapping against the law? Conclusion

9 to 5 (1980) sheds light on so some important problems, such as sexual harassment in the workplace, issues of being overworked and underpaid, daycare for work, staggered work hours, equal pay, and merit promotion. (Women today are still likely to be paid less than men. Women deserve equal wages to men especially when doing the same job as men to help take care of their families).
